The Deep

Today I went to The Deep with my sister and grandparents. I absolutely live sea life, it's so beautiful and colourful. Screw being a photographer, I'll be a diver!

A few days with Luke.

I got to spend some time with my 1 year old cousin this week. I don't get to see him often so this was the first time to see him walk! Hopefully next time I see him he will be talking :-)

Portugal

It's a bit late but these are some iPhone pictures from my holiday to Portugal. We stayed in our friends villa, like last year, it was such a great week. Take me back!

17th Birthday

It was my birthday on the 10th July, I spent the day shopping at meadow hall, went out with family for an Indian and then the next day me and my friends went to a Tapas restaurant (then Frankie and Bennies for pudding).

For my birthday I got an iPhone and 10 driving lessons then I bought myself Nicki Minaj tickets and a Canon EOS SLR 550D from work overtime and birthday money.

Expect a lot more higher quality photos from now on!

Nicki Minaj

Me and Lauren just booked tickets to see Nicki Minaj in November so I thought i'd draw a video still of her from my favourite song of hers "Superbass".

Manchester University

My trip with college to Manchester University: 

I took pictures of the pieces of work that interested me. This first piece of work is by somebody called Jack Oliver who is studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design. The piece below is made up of different layers which, when you stand directly in front of it, make a face. This particular piece caught my eye because its something I haven't seen before. From the side you cant make out what its meant to be, which makes you want to know more about it. Under the face says "He's got his Mothers eyes. The ultimate juxtaposition of inherited features". There was no artist statement or sketchbook related to this so I guessed that he was looking at a similar theme to my fine art project, which is Generations or Inheritance. 

 This is another of Jack Oliver's pieces of work which is more photography based. This was my favourite out of everything I saw at the exhibition. I like how he's managed to add humour to his photos which makes them interesting.

This piece by Ross Pagent, studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design also caught my eye at the exhibition. At a first glance you don't notice that the letters actually make up words in the pile. The words you could see were "end", "broken" and "promises" which explains why the pile is made up of 'broken' words, like the promises. 

 This was a collaged piece by Leanne Richardson. She took the colours of the skin tone on the model and continued the face using different shades of brown. She then used this technique to turn a portrait of a woman into a lion. I really like how the two subjects merge together and there isn't a definite line where the human turns into a lion. 

 After looking at the graphic design, fine art and other art works in the main art part of the University, we crossed over the road to look at the photography section, which interests me the most as it is what I would like to study if I do decide to go to University. 


It was hard to get a good picture of these photographs as the room was so light which gives the reflection on the pictures.


This piece of work was based around the photographer (Stephanie Parnell)'s grandma, Irene. In her artist statement she wrote "my work explores ideas of the personal familial relationships and the spaces in which these relationships function. The project is based around taking pictures of her grandmas possessions and things that make up her life and making them into a book. For example the cat she feeds that isn't actually hers and how she is given a card every time she visits. I really liked this idea because it's personal to the photographer and you can tell she was really involved in the project.

Overall I liked the work students at Manchester University of Art produced as there's a wide range and the students seem to be really driven to produce pieces of work they can be proud of. Each one seems personal to them which I found made them a lot more interesting. Manchester would probably be a good option if I decide to go to University in the future.
